With over 20 years of experience, James Price is a renowned specialist blacksmith and designer based in East Sussex. James and his team work for leading Garden Designers, Architects and Interior Design studios throughout London and the South East. His unique approach to metalwork is defined by a rare combination of a design training coupled with a traditional European style journeyman apprenticeship. Allowing him to create contemporary architectural metalwork that is both structurally exacting and artistically exciting. James’s journey began at Brighton Art College, where he earned a BA (Hons) in Craft Design. Seeking to master the physical discipline of the forge, he went on to train in Blacksmithing at Hereford before embarking on a transformative period as a journeyman in Switzerland. Working alongside world-renowned Master Blacksmith Christoph Friedrich at his historic water-powered forge. James honed the ancient skills of heat, force, and forging that remain the foundation of his practice today. After returning to the UK and refining his craft with several highly regarded smiths in the Surrey Hills, James established his own workshop in West Sussex in 2002.
